Language Arts: We have learned about the different ways to say the long "oo" sound. Our next 5 characters in the Animated Literacy program will teach us about long vowel sounds. We have already met Abe the Hare for long "a". The students have been busy working in their guided reading groups and centres. They have also been writing stories, and are at different stages in the writing process. Several students are busy publishing their first stories during our computer lab time!
Math: We have been practicing our skip counting by 2s skills. The students have been learning several new dice games, which will practice addition skills such as basic math facts to 12 and doubles facts. Our final unit is about 3D objects.
Social Studies: We have enjoyed our totem pole inquiry project this term. The students have learned all about how totem poles are designed, carved, and raised. We were in contact with the Haida Centre in British Columbia, and they were great about answering all of our questions. Each of the students also wrote a story to go with their totem poles. We were hoping that they would be ready for Parent-Student conferences but that did not happen after all of the days we missed due to flooding. Our new plan will be to display them the evening of our concert in June.
Science: We have wrapped up our materials unit and our final unit is all about the 5 senses. We will be doing lots of cool experiments with smell, sound, taste, touch, and sight.
Health: We will be finishing the "Kids In The Know" program in the upcoming weeks. Our final unit is all about nutrition.
